LUCY ANN’S STORY

“If you can’t see the good, then be the good.” These are the words that Lucy Enloe lived by and pushed out into the world. Many were not truly prepared for the force of good that Lucy Enloe would become.

Making her debut on July 30, 1989 at 4 pounds 15 ounces and a healthy set of lungs, Lucy immediately captured the hearts and attention of her parents, Eddie & Barbara Enloe, and older Bubbie & Sissy, Kyle and Angela. Inevitably, Lucy would go on to capture and influence the hearts of thousands more as she bravely lived her life.

Lucy possessed a fiercely compassionate heart and servant spirit. She believed that it was imperative to always be a supportive & genuine friend to those who crossed her path and fearlessly made the proactive effort to volunteer her time–and whatever resources possible–to those who needed her help.

One of the many examples of Lucy’s dedication to serving others was when she single-handedly collected hundreds of pounds of clean water, food and clothing for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. By the time she gave her father a call to help with transportation, he already knew Lucy was determined to do something amazing. Twice, she and her father transported the resources to New Orleans where they donated the items to local churches acting as evacuation and resource centers for displaced residents.

But her work did not stop there. Lucy also worked tirelessly and compassionately to advocate for animal adoption, social justice reform, pediatric cancer research and organ donation. She was a committed proponent for organ donation and made it a strong point to ensure that all her close friends and family were registered donors. She would become the hero she encouraged those around her to be sooner than anyone realized.

Though not a mark was left on her body, Lucy was tragically injured in a car accident on August 30, 2017 where she was revived by first responders on the scene. However, her injuries were fatal. Two days later, Lucy had her donor surgery where she was able to give all eight major organs, her corneas, and every tissue for which she was eligible for donation–an unprecedented occurrence. But that was Lucy, always giving her all whenever she was called to act.

More than 800 people attended Lucy’s memorial, where all who greeted the family said the same thing: Lucy was my best friend and I absolutely loved her. It is only divinely fitting that even in her passing, Lucy is able to still be the good she wanted to see.
